Planning a Trip to Tayrona National Park? Check the Closure Dates First
These closures are part of Respira Tayrona (“Tayrona Breathes”). They give nature a chance to recover and allow the Indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta to carry out their traditional ceremonies and spiritual activities.
As a local tour guide, I always recommend checking the park's closure dates before booking your trip. It's a simple step that can save you some frustration and help you plan your time in Santa Marta more comfortably.
When Does Tayrona National Park Close?
Tayrona National Park has three scheduled closure periods each year:
February 1 – 15 — Kugkui Shikasa
June 1– 15 — Saka Juso
October 19 – November 2 — Nabbatashi
These dates are part of the park's regular conservation calendar and are connected to the traditions of the Indigenous communities who consider this territory sacred.
The good news is that these closures are scheduled in advance, so with a little planning, it's easy to organize your visit around them.
Just keep in mind that dates and access conditions can sometimes change, so it's always worth checking for updates before your trip.
